Quail?

When my friend Andrea was here a few months ago, we went to a large antique mall near my house. I found this bird--is it a quail?--for six dollars. I liked the shape of it, but that beady little eye kind of freaked me out. And I wasn't keen on the bronze color.

So I painted it. Wow. Sorry about the glare in this photo. It's hurting my eyes!

I don't know. Maybe I should have left it alone and not antiqued it. What do you think? I could always repaint it.

Today my friend Rachel is coming to visit. She lives in Wisconsin and we usually meet near Milwaukee, but with my stomach still being rather sore, she opted to come here. I'm not sure what we'll do. I have a couple of things in mind. Maybe lunch at a restaurant on the lake, or take in a local art/craft fair, maybe browsing some books and having lunch at a quaint book store...

I played around with a new look for the blog, but I don't think I'm loving it. I don't know. Maybe I should go back to plain white for a while.

I'm awfully indecisive today, aren't I?

Hi - I did not find your blog by chance. And I think you are Super.

I like the bird you found and I think the new blog design is pretty.

But, spend a day with your friend and then look at it again and decide if you still like it. : )

Thank you very much and have a nice day!

You're right, the beady little eyes were creepy (I think it's either a quail or a ptarmigan). I like both versions, antiqued and not. Much prettier than the original.

The new blog layout *is* a little loud, but bear in mind that I'm Gothy and I like dark and subdued colors, so take my advise with a grain of salt ;)

I love how he turned out! I have a quail just like him (only he's browns and white). There is something about the quail shape that's just too cute!

Quails from the past. If I were gonna change him from his originality I'd paint him black or white. I'd give him a place card (remembering cute Quayles) from the past. He reminds me of Dan Quayle.
