Details.

Thank you so much everyone for your comments about the buffet! It's my favorite piece of furniture in the house right now and I was happy to see you liked the new glass knobs as much I do! There was an overwhelming response to leave it as is, which is what I am going to do.

I don't think I've shown you this crocheted beaded bag before. It was made by my brother Randy's mother-in-law. She strings all of the beads on the crochet thread before she starts crocheting. Amazing. This one is probably my favorite out of the ones I have.

You can see two others I've shown on the blog here and here. One day I'll show you more.

I bought a vintage dresser scarf for the top of the buffet and wanted to show you the embroidery.

There are a lot of french knots.

The crocheted edge is quite pretty, too. Would you take something like this to the dry cleaners? It could stand to be cleaned and ironed, but I'm afraid of damaging it.

I've made some progress on my bead embroidery, which I'll share will you next time.

Until then...

I have always hand washed vintage runners like that in cool water and gentle detergent. Hang or lay flat to dry. Iron. No problems to date!

Oh and if it has a darker spot on it, use a bit of fresh lemon juice on the spot. That helps sometimes.

The bag is fantastic! How does she get it so perfect? I crochet but am no where near her league. :-) I would have wash your runner also. I think the dry cleaning would be fine but it is so delicate you just never know. I would not lay it out in direct sunlight though, that can damage some of the delicate fibers.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Betty - I have no idea how she gets it so perfect. I don't even know how to crochet! She can make them pretty quickly and she's made all different sizes.

I can't imagine how she does that ..I know how to crochet..but simple stuff. I've never crocheted a picture in something let alone w/ beads on it..thats amazing!

An old friend of mine used to own an antique shop and she was always picking up what she called 'lace' ..lots of doilies and stuff like what you have there. I know she hand washed them all herself. And she told me when I had one w/ brown stains on it..to soak it in Biz...the color bleach. I never did it..so I can't tell you how that worked but she said she did it all the time.
