Set aside some dreaming time.

Let's celebrate the middle of our week of unicorns with some crewel work. My mom stitched this for me and it was hung in my childhood bedroom for many years. It comes with good advice: set aside some dreaming time.

It was the first piece of crewel work that she did with embroidery floss. Usually crewel work is done with wool, I think. (Mom, correct me if I'm wrong!)

Her stitches are so fine. I think her crewel pieces are my favorites.

It's been wrapped up in a drawer in my guest room. I should hang it up in my studio.

On Friday I'll share with you the unicorn piece I found on Etsy. I hope you are having a magical week!

Stockings.

Everyone brought their stockings yesterday so I could take some photos. These are the stockings my mom has made so far for my brothers' families.

This is the only stocking that she done (or has been able to find) in crewel.

Here's a detailed photo of the crewel work.

I have a few more to show you tomorrow.

As for me, today the PICC line is coming out! Yippee! On Monday I finally had a positive doctor's appointment where everything looks like it's healing. That was the best Christmas present I could have received.

Today is my first day back at work, so I'd better get to it!

Crewel.

Happy Friday, everyone! I am looking forward to the weekend.

In case you were wondering, we did indeed go to Long John Silver's for dinner last night. This one is extra special because it's half Long John Silver's, half Taco Bell. Swanky. After listening to N. telling us over and over he wanted to go to "Fish Ahoy," we finally went. What did N. have for dinner after all of that? Two tacos from the Taco Bell half. Figures.

While I was at my mom's she gave me my finished Crewelwork piece!

Here are some details.

And the complete piece.

This was from a kit by Elsa Williams. I love how Mom wrapped her signature "Luv U, Mom 2008" around the flower stems. Now the piece just needs to be framed.

I sometimes think I'd like to learn how to do crewelwork. At one point I was going to buy a kit by Sue Hawkins, but never did. Maybe one day...

I saw on the news this morning that we could be getting a foot of snow on Sunday. I hope that's not the case; there's nowhere left to put the shoveled snow around here!

Pin cushion.

Every once in a while, I like to look at vintage crewel pieces on Etsy. Today I found this sweet pin cushion.

Happiest of weekends to you!

And the stockings were hung...

My mom has made nearly all of our immediate family members Christmas stockings. She usually makes one or two each year. Some are in needlepoint, some in crewel, and some in counted cross stitch. I know some of her friends have asked her to make them one, but she can't even keep up with her expanding family!

Here are our stockings. Mark's is made in counted cross stitch.

Mine is done in needlepoint.

N's is also done in needlepoint.

This one she made for me when I was younger. It's counted cross stitch and embroidery.

We are so lucky to have these keepsakes. Each one has either "Love Mom" or "Love Mimah" (for the grand kids) along with the year she made it. I will try to get pictures of the ones she's made for my brothers' families and my aunt's family.

It's snowing pretty hard here right now, but I think we are only supposed to have three inches when all is said and done.

It's a good day to stay indoors and wrap presents...

...while enjoying a Pixie alongside a cup of hot chocolate in my latest favorite cup, given to me by my friend Jenn.
