Yesterday N. noticed this little guy (or girl) in our neighbor's window well. There was no way for him to get out of his predicament on his own. N. has a knack for finding wildlife in need of saving.
First Mark tried to put a rake near the chipmunk, hoping he might just hop on it and then hop on out of the window well. That was a nice thought, but instead the chipmunk freaked out, went flying, and landed on the bottom of the window well. Next, Mark attached one of N.'s bug catching nets to the pole of our rake with duct tape. After a lot of chasing and loud chattering from the chipmunk, Mark was able to fish him out and send him on his way.
N.'s been busy looking up information about chipmunks and trying to determine whether or not people have them as pets, along with the more important question of whether or not his parents would let him have one for a pet.
I can easily tell you the answer to that: No.

It's amazing how many critters wind up in window wells. We had an oppossum in ours once!
